Turbine drive and why it changes the install

The TA-90V is turbine driven. No air source required. If you've ever costed a ventilator install and discovered the compressor and pipework cost as much as the machine, you'll understand why that single line matters.

Turbine drive also saves oxygen. On a pneumatically driven ventilator, drive gas is consumed alongside what the patient breathes. Take the drive gas out of that equation and your cylinder lasts longer — which matters most in exactly the practices that can least afford a mid-procedure change.

Tidal volume runs 5-1500ml. The bottom end is what makes this usable for small animals; 5ml is cat and small-exotic territory, not just a marketing floor.

Six parameters, one screen

The 10 inch TFT touch screen displays multiple waveforms and 6 parameters simultaneously. Simultaneous is the operative word. An anaesthetist watching a trend across several variables catches deterioration earlier than one cycling through screens.

Ventilation modes

VCV, VS, PCV, VPS, SIMV and manual. That set covers volume control, pressure control, support modes and synchronised intermittent mandatory ventilation, plus manual when you want your hand on the bag.

Why does mode range matter in a veterinary setting? Because your patient population spans two orders of magnitude in body weight. Battery and gas monitoring

Power support runs a minimum of 2 hours on a fully charged battery under standard operation. That's not designed as a portable-use feature — it's a mains-failure margin. Two hours is enough to finish a procedure and recover a patient properly rather than making decisions under pressure.

Gas monitoring is optional configuration for CO2 and anesthesia gas. Specify it at quotation if you want it; retrofitting monitoring is rarely as simple as it sounds.

Tidal volume and what 5ml actually means

A 5-1500ml range spans a 300-fold difference. That range is the reason a general practice can run one machine instead of two.

At the bottom end you're ventilating cats, rabbits, ferrets and small exotics, where accuracy matters far more than capacity — deliver 15ml when you meant 10 and you've overventilated a small patient significantly. At the top you're covering large breed dogs through long procedures. Most veterinary ventilators handle one end well and the other adequately, so it's worth asking us how the machine performs at the specific weights you see most.

Bring your case mix to the quotation conversation. A practice doing mostly cat neuters and a practice doing mostly large-breed orthopaedics should be asking different questions about the same machine.

Circuits are a per-patient decision

The machine ships with a built-in breathing circuit, but circuit selection still varies by patient weight in daily practice. Rebreathing circuits suit larger patients and conserve gas and heat; non-rebreathing circuits reduce resistance for small ones.

Whatever you choose, circuits and bags are consumables. Budget for the recurring cost, not just the machine — and confirm at quotation which circuit type and sizes ship with the unit, because "built-in breathing circuit" on a specification sheet doesn't tell you how many spares arrive in the crate.

TA-90V or TA80V?

The TA80V is the sibling model, also a 2-in-1 turbine-driven ventilator and anesthesia machine. It carries a 9 inch HD touch screen against the TA-90V's 10 inch TFT, and adds a few features the TA-90V listing doesn't mention: mixing O2 and air for the patient, a circuit heating function that warms gas and evaporates internal moisture, an independent one-step ACGO switch, and a 1000ml CO2 absorber canister sized to reduce dead space.
