Chromic Catgut

Chromic catgut is an absorbable veterinary suture made from organic protein fibroin. It's the traditional choice for soft tissue approximation and ligation where you want the material to degrade rather than persist.

• Organic protein called fibroin
• Progressive degradation of fibre may result in gradual loss of tensile strength over time
• Gradual encapsulation by fibrous connective tissue; usually cannot be found after 2 years
• General soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological procedures

One caution from the manufacturer worth repeating: it should not be used for placement of vascular prostheses or artificial heart valves, and not in patients with known sensitivities or allergies to silk.
